F.A.Q.
- Minor hockey is a great way for kids to have fun while staying active and healthy. Players learn new skills, build confidence, and enjoy the excitement of games and practices. Being part of a team also helps kids make new friends, learn teamwork, and feel a strong sense of belonging in a positive and supportive environment.
- For more information about joining a BC minor hockey program, please visit BC Hockey's How to Get Started Page to find a list of all Minor Hockey Associations in BC: https://www.bchockey.net/players/new-player#how-to-get-started. If you are unsure about which MHA to contact, please contact the BC Hockey office, 250-652-2978 or email info@bchockey.net.
- There are opportunities for players of all skill levels. If you've never played hockey, we would recommend applying for our First Shift Program which is designed to be an easy transition for new-to-hockey families where kids can try hockey for 6-weeks before officially joining a Minor Hockey Association. For more experienced players, there are programs such as Jr Canucks Hockey Camp for skill development, and Canucks exclusive opportunities such as Every Kid's Dream presented by Rogers. For more information on these programs, check out our GET INVOLVED page.
- Hockey players require head to toe equipment to keep them safe on the ice. Equipment varies between players and goalies. Players require a helmet, neck guard, chest pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shin pads, hockey socks, skates, and a hockey stick. Goalies require a helmet, neck guard, chest pads, elbow pads, blocker, trapper, hockey pants, hockey socks, goalie pads, skates and a goalie stick. Any local sports equipment shop can help guide you through all of the equipment necessary to get started.
